Cardinals Defeat Bulldogs
Both the Cardinals and the Bulldogs started off the game slow. Neither team found the end zone in the first quarter, with both teams recording mutliple 3-and-outs. The Cardinals were the first to pass the goal line in the second quarter with a 5 yard keep by QB Cohen Healy. A defensive touchdown brought the game to 12-0 Cardinals at the half. The Cardinals continued their offensive streak with a 45 yard outside break by RB Colton Frost. This was followed by two touchdown passes from QB Cohen Healy , a 27 yard launch to WR John Dreischmeier and a closing 25 yard throw to WR Wes Kraisinger. This brought the game to 33-0 in the Cardinals favor, by which point they began to substitute in some new players but didn't manage to score for the rest of the game.
Defensively, the Cardinals proved dominant in the work shown by the defensive line. A pair of major sacks and multiple tackles for loss were recorded by the D-line, with a few coming from the linebackers as well. LB Tyson Imhoff led the team in tackles with 12, followed closely by LB Darren Laufenberg and DT Bryce Nankey. CB John Dreischmeier also recorded a defensive touchdown, intercepting the Bulldog QB and taking it the extra 20 yards to the house. 3 fumbles were also recovered by the Cardinals, letting them win the turnover battle 4 to 1. The Defensive Coordinator for the Cardinals had this to say of the game:
I felt that our defense is what won us the game tonight. We emphasized communication a lot in practice, and you could hear many of our guys on the team talking before every play. It's a great thing to see everything that you worked on in practice taking form on the field. I was also proud of our hustle this week. We looked stale in the past few games and I feel that led us to our losses, but we clearly wanted to win this game and it was evident from the start.
The Cardinals look towards Ithaca in an important conference game next week. Go back to the hub.
